Merry Christmas To All!

Here is another poem I found that relates, for me, to the holidays. It's called "The Fortress"

The Fortress
By
Terry Hyde

There is a place of safety
Standing on its own,
With walls of wood,
And doors of stone,
A fortress as its known
By all who pass and gaze upon
Its merits brightly shown.

Now enemy can invade the lair,
protected by its stand,
With power great,
It permeates,
Within,
Throughout the land.

Though noticed not,
By those so fraught
With ventures of the hand,
Who only slightly gaze upon,
Then turn away again.

It strength abides,
For those inside,
And sends the unafraid,
Outside its walls,
To other halls,
precariously made by hand of man
To fall or fade.

There is a place of safety,
Standing on its own,
A place of power,
With love therein,
“A fortress”
Stands the home.

I hope your Christmas will be merry and bright. I hope you have a Happy New Year!

Happy Thanksgiving!

As the holidays approach its good to reflect on what the seasons are about. Family, friends, being thankful for what we have and the list could go on. I have written a lot of poetry in my day and this season I would like to share some with you:

The Guest
by
Terry Hyde

Around a table set for eight,
Seven did partake,
Of lavish fare, with golden ware,
On alabaster plate.

Seven sipped the vintage grape,
And passed a silver cup,
Then dapped their lips with linen lace,
And spoke of kingly sup.

An empty chair, a single place
Upon the table spread,
Ne’er soiled of meat, or drop of wine,
Nor crumb of broken bread.

Hungry to the meal he came,
The eighth guest in the night,
Invited there, yet turning back,
Approaching not the light.

Perishing for lack of bread,
And fearing he should die,
Seven beckoned to the eighth,
Lest he should pass them by.

The guest drew nigh and thus partook,
Thence labored with his might,
And strode away into the day,
Then slipped into night.

Seven feasted with The King,
And sat within the gate,
Partaking there of angels fare,
While waiting for the eighth.

I wish each and everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Crossroads

(Crossroads), is the first song on my CD.  The first verse is; in the mirror I stop and stare, I wonder now, who's really there. I think I know who I am at times, but then I find, another me, another mind.  This refers to having a multiple personality.  A multiple personality doesn't mean you're not aware of what's going on, it simply means that you're affected by forces beyond your control.  People affected by this disorder are often bewildered as to why they reacted in the manner in which they did.  When this alter ego/personality comes forward, it robs the individual of their own volition and their desired behavior. In this altered state, it often even surprises themselves.  Under these circumstances their behavior leads them to regret and guilt. Therefore, (another me, another mind.)

The chorus describes the fear and frustration one feels when trying to discover and understand the forces that are upon them.  Perhaps the most terrifying part is the strong compulsion you feel when the alter egos manifest themselves.   The second verse reads; I turn away in fear at times, when I find, another will. And yet at quiet moments ask, what's inside, what is me, is it real?  This verse talks about the fear we feel in trying to face our demons. At best, it's a journey of confusion, regrets and struggle.

And so the song is a depiction of one's struggle to overcome the effects of tramatic childhood abuse.
Each one of us react differently in different social situations, for as the poet Shakespeare said, "All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely actors.  They have their exits and their entrances and each man in his day plays many rolls, his acts being seven ages." But this not the type of roll I'm talking about when I speak of "multiple personalty."  These are not of our own choice but those of damaged alter egos who hold dark and dysfunctional behaviors.

And finally the last words of the song deliver the message--in spite of our best efforts, we need the help of our Heavenly Father to finally become whole.

COUNTING HORSES

Counting Horses is the name of a book that I have written.  It's also the name of a CD that I wrote and performed.  You can learn more about both by going to my website, counting horses.com.  It was a concept project designed to inform people about the horrors of abuse. It's my story. The book is difficult to read since it speaks of man's inhumanity to children. The music is a little softer but still address the same subject.  Both the book and the CD are basically divided into three parts. The first part talks about the abuse, second, the consequences and third a message of healing.  Why did I take on the project? That's a good question. The answer in part is that I needed to do it for my own healing.  A close second was to let people know that they're not alone if similar things have happened to them.I feel the definition of loneliness is not the absence of people but the absence of understanding.  When we connect with someone through understanding we can influence them for good. This is my desire.  A great deal of healing is taking place in my life though I'm  still not completely whole.  This will probably be a lifelong journey.  My message: if I can do it so can you.  I am sorry if similar things have happened in your own life. I pray that you're getting the help you need.I hope my book and music can assist you on your journey.  I'm willing to do whatever I can for any of you.

Beginnings

We are pleased to announce that coming soon we will have blog posts on the music and the book Counting Horses. You can get the book and music from countinghorses.com or from iTunes.

A little bit about W.T. Hyde:

W.T. Hyde was born during a severe thunderstorm in his home in Marysville, Idaho. Pots and pans caught the rain from the leaky roof that ushered in the event. He has lived in Idaho, California, and Southern Utah, where he now lives with his wife, Pam of thirteen years.

While he says he isn’t yet educated, W.T. graduated from Ricks College (now BYU Idaho) with an Associate’s Degree in Business and Psychology followed by Brigham Young University with a BA in Communications.

W.T. has been around the world including performances in the Teatro de Sar Suaile in Madrid, Spain, to backyard BBQ’s.

He loves God, Pam, his very, very, very large family, music, his two guitars, especially the Martin H-D 28. Yes, the same guitar his wife says he would rescue before her in the event of a house fire. In asking him what that’s all about. He says, “I don’t know how to respond, so I just do as my penguin friends from Madagascar do–‘smile and wave boys, smile and wave.’”

A list of the different jobs he has held would give the “Great Pretender” pause, including soda jerk, guitar teacher, wrangler, catsup salesman, shoe and clothing salesman, lobby for small business, university administrator, travel agent, semi-conductor production supervisor, employee relations manager, training manager, steel plant safety engineer, administrative manager for a coal-fired power plant, policy writer for 2002 Winter Olympics, alternative medicine practitioner (energy work), author, and singer/songwriter.

His goal is to help people heal–in all ways.
