Happy Thanksgiving!

As the holidays approach its good to reflect on what the seasons are about. Family, friends, being thankful for what we have and the list could go on. I have written a lot of poetry in my day and this season I would like to share some with you:

The Guest
by
Terry Hyde

Around a table set for eight,
Seven did partake,
Of lavish fare, with golden ware,
On alabaster plate.

Seven sipped the vintage grape,
And passed a silver cup,
Then dapped their lips with linen lace,
And spoke of kingly sup.

An empty chair, a single place
Upon the table spread,
Ne’er soiled of meat, or drop of wine,
Nor crumb of broken bread.

Hungry to the meal he came,
The eighth guest in the night,
Invited there, yet turning back,
Approaching not the light.

Perishing for lack of bread,
And fearing he should die,
Seven beckoned to the eighth,
Lest he should pass them by.

The guest drew nigh and thus partook,
Thence labored with his might,
And strode away into the day,
Then slipped into night.

Seven feasted with The King,
And sat within the gate,
Partaking there of angels fare,
While waiting for the eighth.

I wish each and everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
